Tiffany & Co. Create Fine Jewelry For The Great Gatsby

Tiffany & Co. partnered with  Warner Bros. Pictures and Bazmark to be the fine jeweler for Baz Luhrmann’s <The Great Gatsby>, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 literary classic. Tiffany designed jewels specifically for the film, a tale of passion that unfolds during the Jazz Age. Now, as then working with the film’s Academy Award-nominated director Baz Luhrmann and costume and production designer Catherine Martin, Tiffany has created an extraordinary collection of platinum-set diamonds and lustrous pearls that complement the period costumes. Together the opulent  costumes and jewelry give the actors a true sense of the high life as celebrated by their characters at penthouse parties and summer soirées at grand estates.

As America’s first great jeweler, Tiffany & Co. defined the glamour of this fabled era. Tiffany diamonds in jewels of dazzling beauty and sensuous motion symbolized the unbridled optimism that swept the country. The chosen adornments for the period’s light, shimmering gowns, these brilliant gems glittered amid the music and the revelry and the flow of champagne.
“This collaboration is a natural for us,” said Jon King, executive vice president of Tiffany & Co. “Tiffany is America’s premier jeweler. Our archives contain spectacular jewels from the 1920s that are the basis of the one-of-a-kind designs we have created for this iconic American story.”
“Tiffany & Co seemed the perfect fit for the jewelry of The Great Gatsby not only because F. Scott Fitzgerald himself was a customer but also because Louis Comfort Tiffany, the brand’s first Design Director, mixed in the actual Long Island circles described in the novel,” said costume and production designer Catherine Martin.
“The Tiffany & Co Archives have proven to be an invaluable resource in looking back at this Golden Era of affluence and fine jewelry and the continuing tradition of excellence and exquisite craftsmanship has allowed us to both create and recreate pieces that we hope will do justice to this extraordinary novel.” In addition to the jewelry, the interior of Jay Gatsby’s home in the film gleams with china and sterling silver flatware and other accessories by Tiffany & Co.
