H&M Studio SS2016 Men Collection is a fresh silhouette for the urban explorer. Menswear moves forwards to a boxy, utilitarian silhouette. It’s about a refined sportiness for the urban explorer, with a fresh tailored mood that’s at once smart and relaxed. The zip-up jacket is the new essential, along with the resort shirt and double-pleat tailored pant, while the muted colour palette puts extra emphasis on the cut. Innovative fabrics look especially fresh when layered with classic cottons and linens, capturing the new take on classic menswear.
“Right now it’s about updating classic pieces to be super modern. The zip-up boxy jacket is what I want to wear, along with a new focus on tailored pants. Match them with T-shirts and sweatshirts to get the new sportswear look,” says Andreas Löwenstam, H&M’s head menswear designer.
Zip-up jackets define the look, whether it's a suede zip-up jacket, or a boxy zip-up jacket in cotton twill. Utilitarian pockets are a crucial detail. Tailored trousers with deep double-pleats are at the heart of the look. A wider leg and higher waist refresh the style and make them modern.
Crisp woven T-shirts and sweatshirts are the perfect companion to the tailored pants, while shorts have a technical, sporty feel. Graphic architectural patterns on shirts and T-shirts are all the accents that are needed for the layered look. The track-top is refined to create the perfect casualwear piece in golden beige, best worn with slacks and chinos.
The Women Collection is about the style, glamour and bliss of adventure. Always exploring, always glamorous, always on an adventure and about taking every opportunity that comes all season long. The freedom of bohemia – prints, throw-on layers - mixes with the bliss of an endless beach summer, along with the functionality of the trekker and the sportiness of the urban girl. Her clothes are like memories, in sun-bleached shades or patchworked to give new life. Whichever piece she’s wearing, it has to be effortless, ready for the next experience, whether she’s out in nature or on the streets of the city. “H&M Studio for SS2016 is an adventure in style. Our girl is always exploring, whether she’s on the city streets or on the trip of a lifetime. She mixes function with femininity, sportswear with pieces for a party, and whatever she wear she always looks effortless,” says Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s head of design.
It’s about journeys as a way of life, from finding yourself in the city to travelling into the unknown. Functionality is essential: performance hooded outerwear; frontier and utility jackets, with functional details like drawstrings; and sports leggings and bra.Pieces are elevated yet easy: the glamour of spaghetti strap striped dresses with handkerchief hems and long skirts, or optic native print kaftans with oversized tie fronts. Mix activewear with feminine pieces, like vivid-print silk T-shirt dresses; little tiered dresses tied by straps, or gathered tunics to throw on at the beach or ready to party. A worn-in feeling makes the pieces feel like memories, like the raw edges of a halterneck top, or the sunbleached shade of a patchworked dress that’s like it’s been mended to live again. It’s that elevated effortless wardrobe where everything can be packed into a backpack: halternecks, bikinis, draped shorts, performance leggings, floaty dresses, hoodie. Silk, cotton, cotton linen, canvas, leather and fully-functional technical materials. 100% organic cotton is used for many of the pieces, including a frontier shirt, drawstring-sided sweatshirt, a bohemian trimmed loose blouse and trekking shorts, while silk scarves are made from Tencel®.
