Jaeger-LeCoultre presents “Tribute to Duomètre” at 1881 Heritage Boutique with its brand ambassador and the icon of elegance, Clive Owen in the flagship store in Hong Kong. Owen's discrete yet charismatic elegance is in perfect harmony with the Duomètre collection. A true expression of the savoir faire of Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre, Duomètre collection associates technical performance, aesthetic innovation and simply beautiful watchmaking.
A legendary ancestor of Duomètre collection - a historical pocket watch from 1880s is also showcased in Hong Kong for the very first time, revealing the original inspiration for the remarkable Dual-Wing design. Since the brand’s inception 181 years ago, the quest for precision and reliability was the driving force and inspiration behind the efforts of the watchmakers of Jaeger-LeCoultre. With each new invention the Manufacture could build upon the know-how gained through the design and production of some of the most astounding movements in the history of Swiss watchmaking. As a worthy heir to all the watches born within the Manufacture since 18 , Duome tre has in particular drawn inspiration from the history of chronometry, or precision timing, a field in which Jaeger-LeCoultre has distinguished itself right from its founding.
Drawing inspiration from this historical chronometer with two barrels , the Duomètre line was based on a novel watchmaking concept: the Dual-Wing. Two distinct watch mechanisms, one for accuracy and the other for an additional complication, are synchronised by a single regulator. Each of these mechanisms has its own source of energy. This new principle ensures accurate chronometer function without the need to forgo the use of one or two complications. The unique technical nature and distinctive styling of the patented Duomètre system clearly place it in the most exclusive echelons of watchmaking fine art.
For the newly developed Dual-Wing movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre has once again left the beaten paths in order to invent a completely new movement design that focuses on the issues of accuracy for mechanical watches with complications. In a traditional complication wristwatch any function not constantly attached to the going train makes the watch’s rate deviate upon its activation: a chronograph as it is switched on, a repeater while ringing or even a calendar function that couples just once a day into the running movement – each leads to a drop in the amplitude of the balance wheel, and a deviation in timing, as they absorb power for their own requirements. Those amplitude-changes, summed up in the course of weeks, lead to an intolerable inaccuracy in the measurement of time.
To bypass this problem, the Duomètre watches feature two independent watch-mechanisms within one calibre: one going train is serving the measurement of time and the other the operation of the complication with both being synchronized through the jumping seconds hand mechanism, the so-called “Seconde Foudroyante”. This shared regulating organ ensures chronometer-worthy precision without interruption as no complication is coupled into the gear train of the timing device.
“I have been wearing Jaeger-LeCoultre watches for many years now and have always been a fan of the brand. The level of the craftsmanship is so impressive: the ethos of the company with their attention to detail make these watches very desirable. I always wear my Duomètre à Chronographe in platinum and it feels right! ” said Owen.
