In conversation With Trevor Wong & Aries Sin @ Designer of Mode Creation

JOYCE launches the "Talent Shop" in collaboration with Hong Kong Design Institute at Joyce Cares PMQ recently. Following on from the successful "Upcycle Project" with the Institute of Textile & Clothing (ITC), JOYCE CARES - a unique sustainability platform that aims at nurturing upcoming artists and designers, channeling its creative spirit into philanthropy; JOYCE CARES extends the Joyce experience to the community by collaborating with emerging young talents on sustainable projects. The project is part of Joyce's on going mission to promote sustainability and corporate social responsibility through partnership with local institutions while providing retail support and opportunities to aspiring designers and visionaries. JOYCE has pledged HKD$10,000 worth of financial sponsorship to each brand in addition to an opportunity to retail their collections at JOYCE CARES PMQ unit from August to October 2014 in all areas of retail, including operations, visual merchandising, marketing and business planning. The duo tells mylifestylenews How this project <Joyce Talent Shop> can help to enhance their brand image and core value of Mode Creation and their many projects in line......

MODEMENT is a Hong Kong based fashion label established in 2010. For years, we have crafted unisex image for both genders (with a rare emphasis on menswear) by using minimal cutting and outstanding silhouettes. Most of the collection is strongly influenced by the multi-faceted culture of Hong Kong, ranging from hybridized city landscape to vernacular food stores.

It is quite tough for local designer to draw attention from local audiences, especially in the high-end market. To be seen is important, it’s essential for us to get more exposure and with the suitable platform to reach out to our target audience. Therefore, supports from international company like Joyce, not only increases our publicity but also help to boast our business and improve in our retail skills by running an actual shop to be able to communicate with our clients and the public.

We appreciate "Joyce Talent Shop" who selected us and gave us the opportunity to partake in this project. This program granted us a chance to get known in public under the platform provided. Joyce is an international multi-brand boutique, people feels the comfort and trust of the product from Joyce. That could definitely help us to enhance our brand image and value.

Not only do we launch our AW2014/15 collection “<MOMENTS> in September, but also a very exclusive collection after the fashion show of <Interstoff> in October at Joyce Care. Besides, we have also participated in the fashion trade show <ROOMS Tokyo> in Japan for the SS2015 Collection in earlier as well as <Taipei In Style> in this coming November. We have also being selected as one of the artists for a crossover project with Heritage Museum in March 2015. There will be a lot of different pop-ups, exhibitions and crossover for MODEMENT in the late 2014.

It is very encouraging as there are more and more emerging designers bringing more energy to fashion industry in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, what is lacking in the local fashion scene is that there isn't much platform for them to gain the exposure and to do business with, especially for the high-end market.

We have to be multi-tasking. We need to design, handling our own marketing, merchandising and sales simultaneously. It is very challenging to juggle in between commercial activities and design works. But it is very exciting.

Fashion is all about personality and lifestyle. It’s not only reflecting your taste and hobby, but also changing people’s characteristics.  I think fashion is one of the most important elements in life.

We love to bring new elements that is related to our daily lives into our fashion. It is essential that every single piece of design carries a meaning of its own which inspires, communicates and finally enhances the wearers. What is trend? It’s just a simple reflection from the society. MODEMENT is trendy yet timeless.

The selling price point is normally based on the R&D and the materials of the style. Every single design not only carries its style, but also the message we want to express. We sell lifestyle and taste, not just the product itself.

Being a fashion designer, the ultimate goal is very simple, as long as the people who wear our design feel confident and happy as we design with truth passion and heart.
