Suisse Programme PLATINUM PRECIOUS EYE CARE DUO Presents: Art of Swiss Beauty Exhibition in partnership with the Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong and Switzerland Tourism. The leading Swiss papercut artist Heinz Pfister was present to kick of the exhibition in Hong Kong recently.
Pfister comes to papercut when he got a book concerning Chinese paper cuts, it packed him. He was engaged with the art of these people and taught himself the techniques. With 121, usually large sized reproductions the paper cuts from Heinz Pfister appear in 2003 for the first time under the title "Traumstreifen" (dream stripes) in book form. Hereby he demonstrates the broad pallet of his work and provides an insight into his Oeuvre to the general public.
At times filigree and playful, at times striking and concise, Pfister conjures with his scalpel from a sheet of black paper a three-dimensionality that often incorporates ambiguity, the subtly surreal and a sense of humour. A shot of sensuality often infuses his work, although the eroticism never comes across as coarse or obscene.
Pfister's method of working can be compared with the Op Art school. Simple, clear shapes that almost evoke optical illusions are frequently represented in his work. He is one of the foremost Swiss papercutters and regularly shows his work at individual and group exhibitions both at home and abroad.
