Khoon Hooi in his latest A/W2011 collection has taken his design yet to another level with bold colors of bright blue, orange, gold and nude at the same time bringing the vibrancy of his design that is edgy yet feminine at every sense. Malaysian borned Khoon Hooi was deeply inspired by his frequent visits to Le Puces de Saint-Quen in Paris. It was at this place that he chanced upon a quaint little antique shop with gorgeous 1930’s antique gold mesh that sparks this creative mind for this collection.
Paris always give Khoon Hooi a happy and dreamy memory and when he patronizes at this particular antique shop looking at the antique gold mesh, the work-of-art and that gave him the limitless inspiration of chosing the fabrics to create designs that has the MESH effect for this collection. After being named the runner-up for the Malaysian Young Designer Award and second runner-up for the ASEAN Young Designer Award in the same year. That spurred his confidence to participate in more international fashion designer competitions when in 1997 he took home the Special Prize of the Asian Young Designer Award in Japan. He then founded Clothier Creation, in which his creations’ romantic, ultra-feminine personality received an infusion of youthful, sexy cool and the label was catapulted to the frontlines of fashion. Khoon Hooi quickly earned a reputation for luxury with an edge: It was serious fashion shot through with a new street credibility, and this new energy led to sky-rocketing sales of ready-to-wear locally and now internationally.
Khoon Hooi used woven leather as part of his design to create the mesh look combining with his detailed embellishment just enough to catch one’s eye and keeping the essence of his signature clean lines in his AW 2011 collection. Drawing inspiration from MESH, Khoon Hooi has also showcased his very own idiosyncratic style whereby the clothes was deliberate and hand-works are accented to unravel the notion of colors with signature fabrication details that was innovative, daring yet sophisticated.
Since his debut of SS08 in New York, Khoon Hooi has been in the media like Harper’s Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, InTouch, OK!, Glamour, JC Report and Elle in the US. With that in hand, Khoon Hooi is available in USA and also niche boutiques in Dubai, Lebanon, Kuwait, Riyadh, Egypt, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
