《Lucy Liu's Book @ TORY BURCH》

It is art meet fashion and charity again!!!Tory Burch hosted an event Wednesday evening at her Madison Avenue boutique to celebrate the launch of Lucy Liu’s book, Lucy Liu: Seventy Two showcasing 72 abstract ink and acrylic paintings done by Liu. For each copy sold at the event, the book’s publisher, Salma Editions, will donate 5 percent of all proceeds to the Tory Burch Foundation and another 5 percent to UNICEF, for whom Liu is an ambassador. Guests included Lucy Liu, Jessica Lange, Carla Gugino, designers Monique Lhullier and Yigal Azourel, Jamie Tisch, Nicole Peltz and Patricia Fields. The publication has been produced in two editions; the Limited Edition comes in an edition of just 72 copies (plus 3 artist proofs). Presented in a silkscreened cloth-covered Solander box, each copy is accompanied by a signed print of one of the paintings from the Seventy Two series. The Special Edition is presented in a silkscreened slipcase.

When not appearing on stage or screen, Lucy Liu can often be found in her art studio in New York City. She began showing her works in New York under the pseudonym Yu Ling in 1993, but this is the first time she has gone public under her own name. The publication Lucy Liu —Seventy Two presents 72 abstract ink and acrylic paintings made by Lucy in 2009. In addition to the paintings, Lucy has written short meditation-like texts that are both informed by the properties associated with each of the 72 Names of God – such as happiness, jealousy and fertility – and clues as to the thoughts in her mind as she was making each of the works in her series of paintings. An essay by Deepak Chopra explores Lucy’s paintings and what might be taking place in the mind of the viewer when they look at them.
