Promised Land

<Promised land> is earnest. This new contemporary drama directed by Guss Van Sant with Matt Damon plays Steve Butler, a corporate salesman who was sent along with his partner, Sue Thomason ( Frances McDormand) to close a key rural town in his company's expansion plans. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected school teacher (Hal Holbrook, who steal the limelight of the entire film for his phenomenal performance even his character did disappear for a large portion of the movie) and other's conspiracy. The film explores America at the crossroads where big business and the strength of small-town community coverage. Damon's low key charisma remind us of his previous film <Zookeeper> and his chemistry between McDormand was rather charming. Co-written by Damon, the film has a definite point of view on the subject of big companies bullying the little guys. Van Sant shot it the way Damon and Krasinski deliver it. Between the three men, the film finds new life and slowly starts to grow into something much larger than another hot topic political picture.
