TOMMY HILFIGER @ SS2012 Childrenswear Collection

Tommy Hilfiger SS2012 Childrenswear collection finds inspiration in the globetrotting adventures of The Hilfiger’s – the fictional, preppy American family fronting its global advertising campaign. Across three fashion groups, the collection offers vibrant, fresh styles for kids, with a cosmopolitan feel that mixes American with European, and urban with outdoorsy.
<Prep City> finds inspiration in the place where it all began for Tommy Hilfiger: the streets of New York City. As the name suggests, the overall feeling is metropolitan, preppy and sophisticated –but with a healthy dash of fun and spontaneity for kids. For girls, a base of khaki tones is brightened by bold colorblocking, playful polka dots and stripes. Pop colors of yellow and orchid bloom, as well as the always-popular pink, bring a touch of spring, while the warmer weather is greeted with feminine silhouettes and Chambray as a key fabric. For boys, the feeling is preppy and distinctively NYC, but with a dash of Brooklyncool – exemplified by a selection of graphic tees. Against a base of khakis and bright blues, vivid golden and neon pop colors are used.
<Prep Weekend> whisks us away to the sunshine of Le Mans, for a vibrant, summery, and distinctively European feel – but with a palette based around the classic Hilfiger red, white and New. A sporty, racetrack-influenced feel is present in many touches, from the number- and racing-inspired graphics on boys’T-shirts, to the bold colorblocking and ‘boyfriend’ style check shirts of the girls’ collection. For girls, the overall look is easy, relaxed and a little romantic, with feminine details like lace trims and allover florals; a bold, head-turning chartreuse is the pop color of choice. For boys, multi-colored striped polos are a key item. Bold colorblocking continues, with a vivid pop green, and is joined by red, white and navy detailing. The <Prep Camp> evokes the fun of an exclusive, high-quality kids’ summer camp in the woods. Against a base of nature-inspired olive and khaki tones, flashes of fun appear – like swimwear and backpacks in fun pink or cool orange. Washed-out tones are brought to life with belts in pink or yellow, and a quintessential Tommy check forms the base for summery staples like shorts, t-shirts, and dresses.
