All New 2013 Volkswagen Golf @ The ONE CAR

After 38 years on the market and sales of over 29 million units, the seventh generation of the Golf continues the successful development of the Golf family, introducing all-time highest standards of safety, comfort, practicality and efficiency. The all New 2013 Golf :The One Car is finally arrived in Hong Kong. Since its world première in Germany in 1974, the Volkswagen Golf has been recognized as a car for all people, created and designed to meet the needs of the driving public. Each generation of this design classic has set a new benchmark for premium-class comfort and a global standard for innovation. Today, The New Golf is widely recognised as the best model in its class.
This new generation model inherits the design DNA of the Golf family, such the classic C-pillars, elegant body shape and defined face. However, The New Golf also features a number of exciting ergonomic design improvements. It is wider and flatter, with an attractive and extended body that highlights the car’s sporty essence. A longer front section means that the wheels are positioned 43 millimetres further forward, which means a better driving experience and enhanced profile. The panoramic tilting and sliding sunroof appears for the first time, allowing uninterrupted views with an intuitive electric operating system. Visually, the passenger compartment has been shifted towards the rear to emulate the proportions of premium-class vehicles. A new headlight concept, with a sharper headlight configuration and dynamic cornering lights, also distinguish the Golf from previous generations.
The New Golf is the first Volkswagen ever to be based on the Modularer Querbaukasten or Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), a principal that allows the construction of flexible vehicle architecture. Because a core set of vehicle parts will be used across cars that share a similar platform and engine orientation, MQB allows for the installation of all conventional alternative drives. However, wheelbase, track width, wheel size and seat position remain variable. The possibilities that this creates for new designs and power units are extremely exciting. The structure of the new Volkswagen Golf is lighter, has better handling and will enable simple integration for alternative drives in the future.
Progressive design and innovative manufacturing methods utilized in the production of The New Golf have reduced weight by up to 100 kg. Changes to the dashboard, air-conditioning, seating and other features have served to enhance the driving experience. Alterations made to the engine and superstructure have drastically reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 16 per cent, the engine consumes an average of just one litre per 20 km (5 litre per 100 km). Resulting emissions are just 116g of CO2 per km.
Volkswagen developed entirely new TSI engines for the seventh generation Golf. The standard of these power units is vital to the lower emission levels that The New Golf successfully reaches. All engine versions are equipped with a Stop/Start system and brake energy recovery mode with BlueMotion technology, both of which contribute to improved fuel economy. The GT model launched in Hong Kong is equipped with a 1.4 TSI turbocharged engine. The Golf GT, delivers 140PS (4500-6000rpm) and 250Nm (1500-3500rpm). In terms of performance, The New Golf utilizes a seven-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) to achieve a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8.4 seconds up to top speeds of 212 km/h.
Safety and comfort are also hallmarks of the Golf DNA, which is why this new generation design brings an extensive array of features and cutting-edge driver assistance and infotainment systems of luxury segment into this class, successfully achieves the democratization of technology. The new Multi-collision brake is an innovative new feature that comes fitted as standard. In the event of an accident, it automatically activates the brakes to reduce the kinetic impact of a secondary collision. Handling is improved all-round by the addition of the XDS electronic differential lock, while parking features such as the Park Assist system¹ help ensure safety up until the very last moment of your journey. Another innovation is the Fatigue detection system¹, which picks up on the tell-tale signs of tiredness and activates an alarm and advisory message to alert the driver.
