《The Great Magician 大魔術師》

We have to say we did have expectation for this film before we actually watched it. Movie director Derek Yu commented on his own film by changing his usual serious action pack drama to this epic background comedy. That big step taken by Yu had certainly risked the investors who pumped in money into something that could ruin each other future working relationship. Hence, everything is at risk in life, what isn't. The return are always vary depending on how one handle it. However, this film can thirst the quencher for fans of Tony Leung ever since his last movie released <Lust, Caution> directed by Ang Lee. We expect to see more intense and thrilling magic shows with some well planned plots like what Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale's <The Prestige> but this one only leads to disappointment, not to say the magic shows wasn't really entertaining but also lacking on excitement wanting to find out more. Acting was pretty much straight forward and monotonous. Not much of a surprise overall from Yu's usual style of movie direction. Perhaps, it is about time to do something and pay tribute back to Hong Kong local film market instead of producing million dollars budget films to suit the mainland China market needs with bad criticism after the movie released and didn't gain much of a respect after all. It is about time to halt for some quality production.
