《CERRUTI 1881 @ The Grand Écoles SS2012》

CERRUTI 1881 SS2012 pays tribute to the great universities of France – and their three distinct specialties: engineering, liberal arts and fine arts. Les Grand Écoles, as they are known in France, attract leading young intellectuals and artists each year – making them the ideal inspiration for SS2012. The collection’s formal range takes its cue from the École Polytechnique, famed for its engineering and architecture program. With a palette that includes grades of blue, the line features the season’s key looks, including a trail-blazing three-piece suit. The suit, in masculine gray-blue, features subtle horizontal stripes as well as shoulders created from a new cut that improves the fit on the body.  Similarly, this season’s 2-button summer suit, with a slim fit and ultra-lightweight material, demonstrates that minimal construction can also deliver excellent fit.

The most famous school in all of France, the Sorbonne, is one of the world’s foremost liberal arts universities- turning out celebrated writers, philosophers, and researchers since the 14th century. Such forward thinking - combined with traditional excellence- has inspired CERRUTI 1881 to include a range that bridges formal and casual wear. Here, the suits feature a more relaxed fit and are crafted from summer-perfect cotton-linen blends. A fine example is the young urban look achieved with a fine two-piece suit in a subtle grey-green, worn with a cool linen shirt, skinny necktie, and sleek belt.  The innovative reversible nylon blazer in two shades of gray; two-tone linen shorts that add fashionable flair to any casual ensemble; and the outstanding bottle green suede jacket, which features a touch of subtle asymmetry for a fresh approach to springtime layering.
