MARC JACOBS @ SS2014 Fashion Presentation

Marc Jacobs held a SS2014 fashion presentation in Hong Kong recently taking us to a grey, weathered urban shipwreck in the 1890s. Entering the two-story venue, guests will find a washed-out beach, with trashed cups, littered cigarette butts and destroyed fashion magazines half buried in the sparkling black sand, bathed in a disquieting electric blue twilight.

In Marc Jacobs’ interpretation, "it's more of a weird frat party, burning man, shores-of-Gotham city sort of beach scene. It's a lovely nightmare, or it was for me anyway." The ambience is indeed very raw and bewitching, with an unspoken dark romance that is both intriguing and sensual.

On the collection, Marc once commented, "I didn't want the cliché of Spring and Summer, I wanted it to be about girls who have no problem coming to work in a Victorian gown and Birkenstocks… I don't have one friend who dresses in all white."

The puff sleeves, high collars and tassels on mannish jackets add a touch of Goth and mystery. There are large hibiscus prints in red and white, but black, navy, bottle green, and brown are the dominant colors.

Silhouettes are classic and even theatrical, but trails of contemporary sportswear can also be found. For footwear, sandals glitter and suede moccasins sparkle, offering contemporary women the perfect comfy shoes this spring summer.
