PRADA SS2017 Women’s fashion show presents a new elegance and simplicity that derive from a desire for humanity and intimacy and takes into consideration all those typical components and contradictions of today's complex world.
The set was conceived by AMO as layers of diverse architectures. The new space is built over the remnants of the previous season which serve as both a foundation, and visible background, for the current scenography.
The central space has been cleared to accommodate a linear structure that divides the room and amplifies its proportions. A straight ramp elevated above the floor serves as the catwalk and risers are arranged along the perimeter accommodate the guests. All the elements of the set are shroud in an expanded-metal layer forming an abstract configuration of overlapping mesh. The underlying framework remains visible through the cladding and is revealed with Cartesian precision. Lights filter through the mesh creating a pale glow.
The center axis of the space contains a 12-screen film installation by the director David O. Russell and the New York design studio 2x4. Russell imagined the installation as a surreal dreamscape with an eclectic cast replaying scenes in shifting combinations.
The content is derived from the short film Past Forward, a collaboration between Russell and Miuccia Prada. Critically acclaimed for his award winning cinema working with ensembles of actors in films such as The Fighter, American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, Russell conceived of Past Forward as a complex experiment in cinematic form intended for display in multiple environments: gallery installation, cinema, social media, and online.
It is a highly personal collection that it is translated into an attitude that allows a woman to wrap around clothes in a sensual, feminine way by means of colorful Velcro tabs decorated with original labels.
The garments – skirts, blouses, sweaters and Chinese pajamas are seemingly simple. The styling is deliberately restrained for a perfectly balanced result. The combinations are mainly uncommon and unique, away from the traditional attitude.
The choice of fabrics is fundamental: new, modern, synthetic and smooth, they include jersey, nylon and chiffon. Bright colors accentuate the graphic, geometric and floral prints. Feathers decorating the garments add an unusual touch of glamour and femininity. Note the layered and exposed swimsuits.
Classic hues such as beige and camel are the point of departure for an absolutely colorful palette. A wide variety of bags such as clutches, top-handle bags, and briefcases and footwear that include flat sandals, wedges, and slip-on sandals complete the look.
