BVLGARI Serpenti Sparkling Roman Holiday

BVLGARI marked the start of the 2015 Hong Kong WinterFest together with the Hong Kong Tourism Board recently. At this year’s WinterFest held from 4 December 2015 to 1 January 2016, BVLGARI brings their own brand of revelry to Statue Square with “The Sparkling BVLGARI Roman Holiday”!

A large, jewelry-inspired “Serpenti” light art installation was unveiled to the public. Indeed, the Serpenti stood gracefully by the renowned Christmas Tree of the WinterFest; and proudly sparkling atop the annual fixture is the famous Condotti eight point star - a key design element of BVLGARI. It is an apt adornment, overlooking patterns on the floor that mirrors a virtual journey which BVLGARI created in collaboration with Google called “Roman Treasures”.

The Serpenti, as the centerpiece to the event, is an impressive testament to BVLGARI’s belief that there is no limit to aesthetic craftsmanship. The design process of the Serpent itself took six months, with the core of the creation serving like the embedding of precious gems for more than 50,000 LED lights, creating the effect of a scaled body of a serpent. Because the setting of the lights requires manual labor, the process of installation took more than two months.

The serpent has long been recognized as a sacred and mysterious figure in ancient Rome and ancient Greece, and was often used as a decorative element. In Greek/Roman mythology, for example, the goddess of wisdom and goddess of victory both held shields engraved with the serpent. The Greek believed the serpent to be a creature of wisdom and used it as a symbol for miraculous cures. Aesculapius, god of medicine and son of Apollo, is perceived to have a serpent wrapped around the staff he carries, which became the symbol used in modern medicine.

During this time of goodwill, it is also important to remember those less fortunate. Hence, these activities will give back to the community with all proceeds generated during this period donated to the charity organization, Save the Children Hong Kong.

Mr. Antoine Pin, Country Managing Director of Greater China & Australia of BVLGARI, added, “The Winterfest, for many years now, has been a shining beacon for joy and cheer during the festive season which bring happiness to the people of Hong Kong and also friends visiting us from near and far.

This year, it is with great pleasure that Bulgari can be a part of this meaningful occasion by adding our own glittering touch with the ‘Serpenti’ luminaire art installation, hopefully giving everyone a taste of a true, sparkling BVLGARI Roman Holiday!”
