As their PR states, “SO Sofitel Hua Hin is the antithesis of ordinary.” The spa lobby is like many others, but once you have changed and entered the treatment areas, it is designed with a difference for sophisticated indulgence by one of Thailand’s leading architects.
There are vaulted spaces and cavernous treatment rooms and the piece de resistance is the secluded cocoon of wellness, which has pin spot lighting that makes you feel like you are in space looking at millions of stars being one of the highlights of the spa experience and ideal for a pre-post spa relaxation in the cocoon setting.
SoSPA uses the renowned brand, Phytomer that conceives and manufactures cutting-edge skin care products with a new generation of active ingredients obtained through marine biotechnology for revolutionary benefits. We opted for the traditional Thai massage for the essence of local massage techniques.
The first step prior to the treatment is to cleanse the feet with a salt scrub and your skin feels so soft after this. We were provided with Thai pyjamas that were loose fitting, as this is an important aspect of this treatment, as there is a lot of stretching for this treatment.
The traditional Thai massage enables you to experience the Thai ancient healing techniques, which is an intense and dynamic massage, combining stretching, muscle compressions and pressure points. Depending on what pressure you decide to instruct your therapist to use, it can be a treatment that is not for the faint hearted, as it is designed to get to the root of any muscle problems and there can be moments of flinching when your therapist finds those knotted muscles, which we all know are there.
But you have avoided doing anything about, so this is the moment to let the expert seek and relieve – as the saying goes, no pain, no gain, but your therapist is ‘listening’ to you and will notice the moment you think they are going in too hard, so you should never hesitate to let them know to ease up if this is the case.
