Rediscover Your Heart & Soul @ The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat

There was a saying : “Health is the greatest possession and contentment is the greatest treasure. To keep the body in good health is a duty, for otherwise we shall not be able to trim the lamp of wisdom and keep our mind string and clear. ” With that thought in mind, mylifestylenews traveled to the The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, Malaysia to rediscover our heart and soul and the road to wellness…...

The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat rests within an area of remarkable natural beauty situated in Tambun in the Malaysia State of Perak. Deep in the lush tropical rainforest lies one of the nature’s most well-kept secrets. This Malaysia’s first luxury natural hot springs wellness destination runs by the Sunway Group is locked away in a haven lost in time encircle by natural caves, pristine jungle, waterfalls and natural geothermal hot springs.

The spa and wellness centre offering more than 40 holistic Asian-inspired treatments and therapies including the authentic Ayurvedic,Traditional Chinese Medicine and Malay treatments, colon hydrotherapy, antioxidant restorative therapy and hydrotherapy, energy healing treatments such as Reiki and Chakra Energy Balancing as well as a variety of massages, foot reflexology, organic facials and body treatments.

These areas well  complemented by a host of unique features including a thermal steam cave, meditation cave, crystal cave, outdoor rainforest shower, foot reflexology walk, hot springs dipping pools, ice bath and Doctor Fish Pool containing exotic Garra Rufa fish for a true relaxing, renewing and rejuvenating experience.

There are a full team of wellness practitioners comprising an Ayurvedic specialist, Yoga instructor and personal trainer in residence to design a more holistic purposeful programme to suit your needs.

As our stay was rather short, we just opted for the Banjaran Signature Massage - a 90 minute treatment to aid relaxation, relieve tension and sore muscles and improve circulation and assist in restoring balance.

The Spa & Wellness

 The rich tapestry of Malaysia’s culture combines the therapeutic and healing effects of three unique traditions for a true healing experience. The Eastern fusion massage begins with an Indian head massage, followed by the Urut Traditional Malay massage technique and concluding with Chinese pressure point foot therapy. In some regards, this massage is not for the feint-hearted, as the aim is to truly aid the restoration of balance and circulation with a very intensive approach. Naturally, you can request different levels of pressure, but to go full steam ahead with a medium to hard pressure is the only way to gain the full intended effect.

The head massage was a little intense for us, but once the traditional Urut body massage began, it was a more healing technique. This particular massage technique has been handed down from generation to generation, including the recipe for its distinctive herbal massage oil, which is painstakingly prepared by boiling palm oil with various herbs and spices with warming and detoxifying properties. This oil is applied combining traditional methods of stretching, stepping, long kneading strokes and pressure with slow, flowing techniques of lymphatic manual drainage, which is known to improve lymphatic circulation and enhance the immune system.

<Crystal Cave>
The crystal cave with amethyst and quartz crystal facilitates metaphysical healing. Ideal for mediation and regenerate the positive energy healing treatment like Reiki.

 This was also a very intense massage, but you can call the shots as to how effective you want the pressure to be and we did enjoy the intensity and felt the effects the following morning as well. The foot massage can also be intense, depending on how sensitive your feet are to the pressure point approach, but it was a fitting end to a very effective massage and the therapists were always checking to ensure that the pain threshold was never an issue.

<Meditation Cave>
A natural granite and limestone cave formation is an ideal seclusion to focus the mind in silence for complete relaxation and contemplation. Yoga classes are held here with professional Yoga instructor.

We also took part in the late afternoon yoga stretching session in the meditation cave – a natural granite and limestone cave formation offers ideal seclusion to focus the mind in silence for complete relaxation and contemplation guided by a Yoga specialist. The setting is magical for such mystical musings to heal the body and soul, of course. For all wellness enthusiasts, the optional setting for some treatments really does make a difference to how you feel at the end to find peace and relaxation.

That is not it, We thought we should do something further to relax, so we headed for the Doctor Fish Pool containing exotic Garra Rufa fish which provides a tingling yet relaxing sensation to the legs. Inspired by the treatment originating from Turkey, dipping legs into the pool helps eliminate dead skin cells, rejuvenates the skin and is aimed at alleviating psoriasis.

Once you get over the tingling sensation, you are mesmerized by the fish gently eating away your dead skin cells and start to realize where the worst of it is when a huge number target one specific area. It was an extremely enjoyable ‘treatment’ and educational at the same time watching the fish go about their business on your feet and legs. To have this as an amenity to enjoy any time is an added bonus, as they say.
