MONKI @ AW2013 Collection Presentation

Monki AW13 collection celebrates the way women treat time and space as something that is up for grabs as style inspiration. “When, where and how people wear clothes is really fascinating to us as designers”, says Monki head of design Tallulah Topac.“We live in an era where wearing sneakers with your silky party dress is a style statement, not a
social no-no.”
The AW13 collection uses what happens sartorially in different places and times to highlight people’s play with time and geographical references when they simply dress in the morning… Picking what they like from any time, any place in order to express themselves: and doing it anytime, anywhere, any way.
The result is a wardrobe full of stand-out silhouettes where the classic Monki twist, the unexpected, is central. “A simple dress in an unusual fabric choice. A jersey top in an extraordinary cut,” Tallulah says. “A pattern of colourful fruits, with the surrealistic addition of hand-sketched naked feet. It’s all in the surprising combinations.”
The collection has been created as three distinct stories spanning an imaginary 24 hour period: from stumbling home at 8 am after a night out in 90’s London, to sitting with friends in an over-heated Russian tea room to wandering into a dream in a Midnight Kingdom.
