U SATHORN Bangkok - Urban Sanctuary Lifestyle Staycation
If your taxi driver is well aware of the Sathorn
neighbourhood renowned for its maze of narrow lanes and roads which stashes
quite a few hidden gems like unique restaurants and local eateries, small
boutiques as well as art galleries with surprises that are totally off the
tourist beaten tracks to be discovered in this residential neighbourhood, U Sathorn
Bangkok - the city’s urban sanctuary will be your ideal choice for a city
resort hotel staycation. mylifestylenews writes.
Bangkok is moving at a fast pace with new luxury hotel openings, but many of them don’t stand out due to similar locations and other characteristics that give you pause for thought, because you wonder what is different from the last hotel you stayed in. While we all crave for something unique and with numerous design elements, the discreetly sited U Sathorn Bangkok tucked away in a location that is not very far away from Lumpini Park, located in a peaceful part of the capital where natural beauty sits alongside the hustle and bustle of this busy Bangkok district, may change your mind by staying in any regular hotels in the city.
Finding it can be a little bit of a challenge but U Sathorn Bangkok promises an urban resort style of living and is an oasis that is laid out in low rise wings, set in a courtyard style surrounded by restful green areas with a lap swimming pool as the centrepiece. On arrival we were not expecting such a tranquil oasis and the green lawns were heaven sent to add a sense of serenity. This has turned out to be one of the most desirable urban resorts in Bangkok with a truly vacation motif setting to embrace a relaxing lifestyle – your own.
The overall design of U Sathorn Bangkok was conceived in a French Colonial style with a contemporary twist inspired by Sri Lankan Geoffrey Bawa who was regarded as one of the most influential Asian architects of the twentieth century. The design breaks down the barriers between the inside and outside and between interior design and landscape architecture which reduces the buildings to a series of delightfully conceived spaces separated by natural features.
The arrival and departure experience is under the outdoor port cochere and gives you a feeling of being in a resort, rather than a hotel, which is the intended effect. The front desk team were generally welcoming, but not all were showing that seamless service attitude, so some consistency was lacking. Despite the effort being made, we find it strange by being asked what kind soap (and you are only allowed to pick one scent) do we wish to have upon check-in and need to be decided immediately, which is not really the priority especially when you are coming from a long haul flight, yet they did not deliver on our request as a memento souvenir given to all guests before check in.
We were swiftly shown to our room on the top floor and as it happens, almost every room has some view of the courtyard, with ours in particular giving a full depth of view of the entire swimming pool and courtyard and looking beyond the city skyline as a backdrop.
The Library located in a dedicated quiet zone.
Our Deluxe Garden Room is simply laid out, with the main body of the room being the bedroom that has floor to ceiling glass windows and sliding doors with mosquito net protection that look out onto the balcony and courtyard beyond. Off to one side is a separate toilet, which leads to the walk-in spacious shower on the other side screened off from the bedroom.
The interior design is referencing a quirky French provincial style and they have made excellent use of the 32-34 sqm space, so the rooms feel bigger than they are. Empty photo frames above the bedhead adds a quirky design motif adorned with a houndstooth fabric corner sofa lightening up the room with colors on the plush cushions.
Mosquitos are to be expected for intrusion without any warning in a tropical climate in Bangkok which is quite common. Hence, having a sliding door closed at all times is wise and also to keep the room temperature cool while the air conditioning will be automatically paused when it isn't shut properly.
Sauntering through the serene compound surrounded by a garden lush with frangipani trees or simply set your mind free and lay down on the sun loungers soaking up the tropical sunlight was rather a joy and relaxing, except the constant noises being heard from screaming kids. That is the thing for a small resort type of establishment and with the one and only swimming pool as the major attraction, the give and take mentality must be validated.
For dining, there is The Library for light bites throughout the day and breakfast is to be had in the award-winning fine dining restaurant space J’AIME by Jean-Michel Lorrain, so you could say that the experience is elevated somewhat. Breakfast covers all your favourites and naturally has a slant toward local Thai food which we very much enjoyed especially while you are seated on the balcony looking down at the lawn and swimming pool to start you exciting day ahead.
Our experience was a complete contrast to other hotels we stayed in very close to this locale and U Sathorn Bangkok stood out for being an urban oasis with land that had been carefully developed in a low rise way and highlight an expanse of green lawn as a key feature, as this really was a point of difference. The service overall was warm and polite, but occasionally you experienced a staff member who was pre-occupied with themselves, rather than focusing on the guests. All in all, U-Sathorn Bangkok continues to thrive on the resort lifestyle infrastructure and offers a unique urban resort staycation in Bangkok. For a tranquil spot to relax and unwind in the city like Bangkok, it is still a well-fitted epitome for an urban resort staycation lifestyle.

agnès b - The Snap Cardigan Story Hong Kong Exhibition
agnès b. Snap Cardigan has been evolving since its birth in 1979. And it’s the 40th anniversary of the classic piece this year. To celebrate this, agnès b. held a pop-up exhibition at its K11 store recently. Distinctive works and photos were displayed in the exhibition, as well as brand new clothing series of homme, femme and enfants. Customers were provided with personalized embroidery services to create trendy and unique clothes. There were models displaying different styles of Snap Cardigan to continue the unique classical French style of the past 40 years.
“From Sweat to Cardigan” collaboration of agnès b. X Hong Kong artists agnès b. collaborated with six artists under the theme "b. yourself", to follow the original idea of creating the classic Snap Cardigan by Agnès, transforming the pure white sweatshirt into a unique work, and exhibiting at the event. Each piece is infused with different innovative ideas and with its own characteristics. Here below the creative concepts:
Vincci Cheuk – Artist
【How are you, my friend?】 When I was a kid, I tried to write using my left hand for fun. Today, I hold colour pencils with my left hand again, mimicking the little me. I start writing this: How are you my friend? On the white long-sleeves sweatshirt, every word I write carries my childhood memories. Thank you agnès b. The Snap Cardigan Story campaign for awaking the pure heart. If clothes are meant to highlight personality, then the underlying meaning would be delivering the psychological messages kind of derivative communication. Simple words rouse ignored, innocent souls, expressing love and care to the family, friends and even strangers… spreading the spirit of love beyond limits.
Fish Liew – Actress
agnès b. The Snap Cardigan Story is heading to the 40th year. This classical art piece has not been affected by the passage of time, insisting in the original design concept. Making new attempts while keeping the overall layout develops the unique and eternal classic. How to live a balanced degree in the process of fast learning new knowledge is always a life question. Not to forget and let go of the things that care, stay with the heart, be yourself, which are the core of success. The inspiration comes from our beautiful sea and Indian Ocean humpback dolphins. Urban development threatens their habitats and the environment, and the situation is remarkably worsening. Striking a balance between development and environmental protection is of significance. Through the #TheSnapCardiganStory campaign, with girl's pink color as the main color, plus a pink hat, with a little bit of white, hope to wake up everyone's heart, also to concern the Indian Ocean humpback dolphins and other marine life in the face of the survival of the prestige.
Rita Lee – Chinese calligrapher
Life has never been easy. Facing different challenges, we painstakingly embrace our faith and gradually grow up with the experience. Behind the remarkable success of the signature agnès b. Snap Cardigan, I can see the inspiring stories. Let me fill up the sweatshirt with my unrestrained calligraphy. Hope you guys would believe in positive energy that words could bring and stay strong with your own philosophy when it comes to countless attempts.
Leungmo – Photographer
Three years ago, I met 榮哥, a sculpture artist, who said without life, there is no creation. In this agnès b. #TheSnapCardiganStory campaign collaboration, I picked different hardware parts for my innovation. In daily life, they look trivial, yet they are facilitating our life. If you pay attention to them, every part has a unique shape and design. They have spent the whole life of taking a supporting role, it’s time to be the main star. Without eye-catching colours, it shines beautifully, uniquely.
Lily Cash – Tattoo artist
I am excited to put my fav mandala image on my design for agnès b. The Snap Cardigan Story campaign. Though there is no objectivity or absolute answer in arts, I would still want to introduce my beautiful world to you, see if you have resonance. Experiencing the beauty in life does not limit to specific colors or forms. The colorful, innovative mandala develops from the center parallelly, unlimitedly and freely as how life can be, exceeding limits to create the unique classic beauty.
The creator of Snap Cardigan, Agnès, has insisted on the simplicity and eternal feature of Snap Cardigan over the years. She hopes to spread the idea that clothing can bring out everyone’s unique style. agnès b. invited 20 dream-chasing youngsters and people from different sectors to present their special ways of integrating Snap Cardigan into daily life. Photographs in the exhibition showed youngsters wearing the classical Snap Cardigan on street to indicate various styles and personalities, which also added a youthful touch on the exhibition. They interpreted their own fashion with characteristic way of mix and match. Invitees from different sectors reminded us with their photographs that we should all keep being innovative, just like the creation process of Snap Cardigan. Snap Cardigan inspires us to keep on exploring and trying, to retain the good sides and abundant the bad ones; And most importantly, be determined to change from the bottom of our hearts.

Giuseppe Zanotti AW2019 Advertising Campaign
Giuseppe Zanotti AW2019 advertising campaign is sensual, strong, enveloping and standout and celebrates the light and the dark; the strong and the soft; the now and the past in its new cinematic-inspired campaign.
Shot for the first time by art photographer Suffo Moncloa and featuring models Felice Noordhoff and Mateusz Chmielewski, the series is at once evocative and refined. While the accompanying campaign video, directed by Sharna Osborne, is kinetic and unexpected. Together, both capture the essence of the new Giuseppe Zanotti collection: self-possessed, confident, sophisticated and playful.
Set in rich, cinematic light, designed with a minimalist sleek set and shot on film, each image is bathed in soft red to create an invitingly chic mood for the key styles of the seasons, from the slouchy, silver “Hattie” boot to the ornate, couture-crafted “Fleur” sandal to the sensual, mixed-media “Susie Feline” pump. For men, the new season “Blabber” sneaker and croc-embossed “Abbey” boot show up in an equally cool and compelling environment.
If the portfolio is sweeping, with hints of drama, the video is energetic, indie and at times even slightly nostalgic, as though shot by an intimate friend.
Using quick cuts and collage effects, the short piece highlights the contemporary spirit of the AW2019 collection.

From the retro platform “Bebe” pump
to the high-contrast “Leandra” stiletto to the bon ton “Thalia” derby to the
one-of-a-kind “Blabber” sneaker, the shoes are front-and-center, portrayed with
an artfully mischievous twist.
“The Fall collection is all about sophistication and chic contrasts,” says Giuseppe Zanotti. “With the campaign, I wanted to portray both facets of the Giuseppe Zanotti man and woman - elegant, modern, individualistic and always with a certain something that stands out from everyone else.”
