Sitting atop the Yingkai Plaza 286 metres above Guangzhou's central business district, the Park Hyatt Guangzhou has its primary location in Zhujiang New Town, just steps away from the Pearl River embankment and offers a luxury accommodation in the sky with sophistication. mylifestylenews writes.
Guangzhou, historically known as Canton has developed into a sprawling metropolis and has so many must visit precincts, but for many luxury hotels to set their foot into this bustling megacity in southern China’s Guangdong province, the closer you are to the Canton Tower the more exclusive the location. With one on the pre-eminent positions in this dynamic hub blending thousands of years of trading history, rich Cantonese heritage and culture, and now the modern skyscrapers.
The eminent Park Hyatt Guangzhou can be easily accessed either by taxi or limousine - if you were to choose arriving in style or by the well-connected metro which is just beneath the hotel building. Once you step into the arrival ground floor lobby, the immersion into the Park Hyatt begins.
Anticipating is killing, as soon as we arrived in the main lobby on the 65th floor, you eyes is immediately drawn to the Canton Tower. From this vantage point, the panoramic view of Zhujiang New Town and the riverside scenery, outlining the city skyline below. The sophisticated modern concrete jungle has certainly set a new benchmark for the area.
The check-in area is front and centre as soon as you step out of the lifts and to the left you have the entrance to the Dining Room and to your right the lobby lounge seating area, with the Living Room further to your right wrapping around the window views. The sculptural dragon motif also continues unveiling more of the body in wooden forms which sparsely populate the lobby, as there is a soaring ceiling height with the two walls of windows showing the majestic views of the city.
The interior design maintains a certain minimalism, is simple yet grand with the highlight being the wooden dragon forms and some subtle stone decoration on the walls surrounding the lifts, referencing Chinese Lingnan architectural elements.
All furniture and decorations are kept to a minimal height so as not to obstruct the views.
Icey from the front desk team greeted us and checked us in despite our early arrival and managed to re-organize our room allocation to find a ready room and we were soon walking into our Tower King Room on the 58th floor with a direct view of the Canton Tower.
With its 208 rooms and suites located on floors 53 to 62 of the tower, if you were booked with the Tower View room, higher floors request is highly recommended as lower floors may have you staring at the neighbouring rooftop which is not what you pay for.
#Room 5827. Hailed as a private residence in the sky, the room design is quite warm with muted tones in browns and beige and the layout is simple and sensible. The entrance area composed of a separate Japanese bidet toilet with all the bells and whistles, the sensible walk-in wardrobe is on your right that is well illuminated.
The bathroom is designed to be opened to the bed/living area via sliding wooden panels as another luxury touch of this 52sqm spacious room. It comes with a large walk-in rain shower and double vanity, all of which is marble flooring and wooden panelling. While the water tap is rather long in design and stretches out to the middle of the small sink, if you are not careful, you can easily hit your forehead while leaning forward or lowering your head to the shallow sink and water splashes out from the sinks creating an unnecessary mess. A large sunken bathtub is ideal for a bubble bath to unwind from a long day out with the premium toiletries LE LABO Bergamote 22 to rejuvenate and nourish your body.
The bed/living area is anchored in Espresso oak flooring and light grey fabrics, with a pink rug under the bed. The decor is a subtle nod to Chinese aesthetics with a large tailor-made Chinese cabinet as the minibar. The minibar is better than some with a Nespresso coffee machine, a selection of Jing tea bags, a Chinese tea set and beautiful Legle porcelain cups and saucers as well as a reasonable selection of snacks and beverages for your consumption.
The cozy room exudes an classy Asian chic look. With the soft glow of the lattice feature wall creates an understated, residential setting above the bedhead which adds an Oriental touch to the contemporary interior. The comfortable king bed was neatly made and spread with premium cotton linens and the blinds operate at the touch of a button.
There is a large round table and two comfortable chairs for the work/dining area and a large 3-seater sofa and ottoman along one wall opposite the bed with a small coffee table, highlighted with a striking art work painting as the only nod to a pop of colour together with a large free standing paper lantern lamp. The TV is free standing on the floor via a column mounting that allows you to swivel in many directions freely. Every component of the room design is very spacious and with all the set furniture we could still leave two large suitcases open on the floor without impeding our enjoyment of the room.
Full-height windows frame panoramic views of the magical city skyline to marvel and it illuminates the entire dark sky as the blank canvas seemingly bringing back the daylight to life after dark.
Level 63 is The Spa with all your wellness options and the lift lobby to this sanctuary floor is quite stunning, featuring a white marble lobby with four tactile stone sculptures resembling rock shapes covered in barnacles motif and these stunning objects are truly mesmerizing and have you wondered what it was.
Given the elevation, no matter what your choice of wellness is, The Spa sanctuary is here for you to slow the sense of time down.
Moreover, the reasonably sized 24 hour fitness centre comes with all the necessary latest Life Fitness workout equipment to sweat off those holiday calories and a 25-metre infinity sky pool bathed in natural light with the stunning view of Canton Tower right in front of you.
There are also hydrothermal options to further indulge after an exhausting day of sightseeing and choose from gender-specific vitality pools and steam rooms to release your tension and truly relax.
Breakfast is always something to look forward to especially when you are staying in a luxury hotel and the Park Hyatt Guangzhou certainly not only knows how to impress their guests but to pamper them with plentiful delectable international gourmet and local delights.
Located adjacent to the lobby on the 65th floor, the bright and airy Dining Room takes up one whole side of this floor. All the tables look out to the city skyline through the floor to ceiling windows and are well spaced out without feeling claustrophobic. The neutral tone of the decor in golds and browns continues with attractive architectural hanging lamps that are akin to stacked boxes and large wooden screens to create sections in the front and cubicles at the back with banquette seating.
It is all well thought through, but a little dated in appearance with the furniture and fabrics looking tired and not a “WOW” on the luxe touches, which is what we expect from a Park Hyatt. Tasteful floral and decorative standing lamps adds warmth to creates that residential feel, which makes for a very welcoming and enjoyable breakfast experience.
The massive well-balanced buffet spread was impressive and it is presented in a very neat and organized format aligned with plentiful options from the East to the West. It was beautifully laid out with one free-standing central long table spreading out all the inviting pastries, cereals, yoghurts, gourmet breads and varieties of milk.
From Charcuterie to delectable Dim Sum, the live cooking section among with the warm cooked dishes offers more than just a regular spread but various options of local delights and premium meat and sausages, all thoughtfully prepared and replenished in no time. Every other item is laid out in one long section grouped accordingly right in front of the open kitchen.
Beef Brisket Noodle Soup
And that is not it, as a well crafted and refined menu is also presented as part of the breakfast routine with all you can order from this a-la-carte options that are cooked to order. The food quality was generally excellent, authentic and delicious.
The western selections favorites are the Avocado Egg Croast, Egg Benedict or Florentine or Royal and even Sauteed Shrimp Scramble and Poached Onsen Egg, Tomato Mozzarella Bruschetta, Mushroom Flatbread, Brioche Fresh Toast, Peanut Butter Bubble Waffle, all are worth exploring. Daily rotation includes Red Bean Puff, Flaky Egg Tart, Char Siu Pork Puff served in a small portion and are not to be missed.
This goes next level with so much to choose from and by this point you realize that it would take 4-5 days to comfortably sample everything. For a luxury hotel, such quality spread and varieties won’t disappoint and it became our highlight every day. The dedicated culinary team’s effort by putting on such a sumptuous feast was worth mentioning and praise for. The exemplary service was also efficient and attentive, table clearance was incredibly prompt and no issues with English communication in delivery orders. Phoebe and Roisine looked after our breakfast well-being without fail.
If your appetite to dine in the hotel goes beyond breakfast, Yue Jing Xuan, the classic Chinese restaurant will knock your socks off for its most authentic Cantonese flavour and service.
For post dinner drinks, The Roof Top Bar has a large inside section with the band area for live music and an intimate outdoor section with low tables and high bar tables as well as a pergola like structure design.
When weather permits, a gentle breeze fills the air and enjoying a cocktail or two outside is just the tonic, you would be hard pressed not to enjoy such an elevated aspect and never get tired of the breathtaking views in one of the best positions in the heart of this bustling area.
Our stay was too brief, which is always the way when you enjoy the luxury of this private residence in the sky as much as we did. While some refreshed interiors would go a long way to creating more of a “WOW” element and to add the fusion of classic sophistication, the Park Hyatt Guangzhou surpasses many others same brand luxurious standard of delivery, especially the quality of its culinary feast offerings and service from the food and beverage team that is second to none.
