《Louis Vuitton @ The Art of Dress Exhibition》
Louis Vuitton latest exhibition at Espace entitled <The Art of Dress> at Espace Louis Vuitton Hong Kong featuring contemporary artworks by three female artists. <The Art of Dress> is not concerned with fashion or glamour or the cut, colour, drape, fit, function or feel of any particular garments or any particular period, community or style. Instead, it features artists who use the idea of clothing as a metaphor for the body and the fact that we are all individually, gloriously different, but connected to one another through our humanity. It explores the essence of dress as an abstract concept and aims to explore the notion of the everyday made universal through art. For each of the artists in this exhibition, the art of dress is a metaphor for personal experiences that now only exist in memory.
Hong Kong artist Movana Chen creates fabrics that may be fashioned into forms, but the thing that gives her works resonance is the fact that they are knitted out of the pages of books and magazines that were given to her by friends and strangers. When she shreds a book, it is to remake it in such a way that the lives of the owner, author, artist, and every other person who may have read the same work are intermingled into something shared.
Chinese artist Yin Xiuzhen has been using used clothing in her installations and sculptures since 1995. For her, these intimate objects are imbued with the personal memories of the original owner and the character of the times they were worn. She sees them as a way of broadening her imagination, and a way of connecting with both their personal histories and their wider social histories so that the entire society can be implicated in her work.
Another Hong Kong artist, Man Fung Yi presents metal sculptures derived from the form of actual garments worn by herself or her family. These sculptures enclose nothing and are presented as an open network of metal wires in order to make the nothingness explicit. The creation by Man Fung Yi of an open skein of metal, describing and hiding nothing, actually gives it greater substance. Exhibition ends May 2012.

《Harry Winston @ Histoire De Tourbillon 3》

No machine on Earth demonstrates time quite like the tourbillon. Indeed it could be the most sophisticated physical depiction of an abstract notion ever developed by man. This hypnotic, rotating and oscillating mechanical world reveals multiple facets of time: its unfailing regularity, its intricacy, its inevitability and a culture of time measurement as old as humanity. In its Histoire de Tourbillon collection, Harry Winston recognizes the tourbillon as a medium of artistic expression unique in scope, depth and subject - a work of art that shows you not only the time, but the nature of time itself. Mathematicians, engineers, craftsmen, philosophers and designers combine to challenge the laws of physics by creating a mechanical dance that unveils time’s tantalizing secrets. The third series in Harry Winston’s exploration of the tourbillon choreographs two rotating escapements that guide the time unscathed through the pitfalls of gravity.
Three tourbillons are in action, each rotating at different speeds to perform distinct gravitydefying functions. Two of them are nested one inside the other to rotate the fourth dimension of time through the three dimensions of space. In this bi-axial tourbillon, one tourbillon carriage rotates every 40 seconds within a second carriage going around in 120 seconds on an axis perpendicular to the first. This ensures that the vibrating balance moves through every possible plane in relation to the field of gravity to average out positional errors. The third tourbillon carriage rotates a separate balance on a single axis in the conventional way, but at the relatively high speed of one revolution every 36 seconds. This tourbillon is most effective when the watch is in a vertical position, and by rotating the balance quickly it minimizes its exposure to the effects of gravity.
《PRADA Uomo @ SS2012 Ad Campiagn》
Actor Michael Pitt is re-modelled as a Golden Age of Hollywood studio icon in this striking series of performative portraits for Prada’s SS2012 menswear campaign. The brooding star of Martin Scorsese’s prohibition-era television epic Boardwalk Empire and Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers explores the language of male role models from the rock star to the playboy, from the self-reflective introvert to the engaging and humorous farceur.
These cinematic codes are revealed as the many sides and moods of Michael Pitt as well as the many aspects of men living in a post-modern period of extended leisure and work culture. Contemporary men work when they play and play when they work – the boundaries are no longer clear – as the campaign’s simple props and gestures emphasise. Shot by world-renowned fashion and portrait photographer David Sims, the images are presented in rich tones and deeply saturated colours echoing 1950s studio portraiture, and subtly referencing the celluloid iconography of the Prada SS2012 womenswear campaign.
