Paul Smith @ SS2014 Women's Collection

Paul Smith presented the SS2014 women's collection alive with optimistic colours and soft feminine interpretations of tailoring classics in the vaulted hall of the Central Saint Martins building. Sensuality and elegance is introduced to the collection in relaxed shoulders, gently cinched waists and loose necklines.

Two key shapes define the predominant tailoring story; a single button jacket is short in the body with finely accentuated lapels that extend into the shoulder seam, whilst a second longer and less structured jacket delivers a graceful movement and fluidity to looks. A fuller trouser shape imbues a sense of 70’s nostalgia, with a high-waist, pleated fronts and voluminous leg.

A familiar vibrant colour palette delivers freshness and positivity for the summer season. Intense bursts of the bright blue and sunshine yellow come through the collection in two-piece suits followed by breaths of tranquility in all white looks.

With conventional men’s garments forming the focus of the collection in shirts, suiting and structured outerwear, femininity is injected in fabrication. Light almost transparent silk voile shirting sits beneath jackets, unbuttoned low to reveal panels of skin, giving a strong sensuality to many looks. Whilst a kaleidoscope of colours combine on a hand-knitted chiffon vest-top and cap-sleeved sweatshirt.

Though blocks of colour dominate, injections of traditional textile patterns that are given contemporary interpretations make appearances across the collection, a digital dogstooth print for example appears on a lucid turquoise trench coat and high-waisted mini shorts.

Meanwhile a bright yellow daffodil bursts into bloom on a loose blouse and shift dress. In a soft cotton silk mix, almost suggestive of denim, there’s a casual suit jacket with over-dyed cheque pocket details.

Contrast bonded edges, polka dot lining and mismatched cuff buttons retain the Paul Smith trait of delivering the unexpected.

MCM SS2014 @ Flower Boys in Paradise Collection

MCM SS2014 collection embarks on a voyage to the latest reverie-filled campaign, entitled “Flower Boys in Paradise”. Inspired by Arcadian Utopia dominated by the androgynous and techno-futuristic, the latest collections elucidate gender-normative tensions in design & traditional delineations of style, presenting a first-time 'epicene' collection. Embracing a stylised nature-couture lens, MCM becomes the complete embodiment of a utopian prose where reality and fantasy coexist.

Exploring the boundaries of 'paradise' in a symbiosis of the old and new, MCM’s SS2014 collection reveals a kaleidoscopic conceptualisation of the ‘ideal’, articulated through silhouettes obfuscating gender polarities within a genderless aesthetic.

Surpassing customary frontiers of 'couture', the latest collection presents tendrils of intermingling florals and classic Visetos motifs rejuvenating the collection’s spirit in a new rite of Spring, creating a paradise-nouvelle of ethereal transcendence that reflects MCM's eternally individualistic pneuma.

The exotic concords in genderless form & function articulate a novel collection that transcends dualities by fusing parallels in creating a never-before-seen gender-blind collection, presenting polarity-fusing silhouettes which embroider a novel paradise.

Unveiling rich new shapes, MCM's 'Flower Boys in Paradise' Collection introduces materials ranging from printed and embossed leathers, to classic Visetos, boasting carnival hues in paradise green, poppy red, empire yellow, daphne blue, dampened pastels and whimsical gold juxtaposed against wild and exotic prints such as python, crocodile, and fish scales nestled amongst pastel hues of dove, ash, chalk and sand.

The latest collection presents a distinctive trilogy of paradisiacal debutants, conceived between the contradictions between serenity & discord.
